Antique Rolex

Since I bought it 30 years ago, I don't remember the price, so I walked into the store not knowing if the Submariner had gone up in value. Surprisingly, I had all the accessories, so I told the store staff about them and asked for an appraisal. I didn't have high expectations because my Rolex was vintage, but the store staff explained a lot of details and gave me a price that made me decide to sell it. We also had a great conversation about when I got the Submariner. I was initially unsure about my vintage Rolex, but the store staff were so kind and helpful, so I decided to bring in my unused items. Thank you very much.

I'm selling my vintage DateJust

I was cleaning out my grandmother's house and found a vintage DateJust that she couldn't remember buying. I found out about Jewel Café while searching for a resale shop online, so I decided to take it there. There weren't any accessories or anything, but the staff was very knowledgeable and told me in detail which DateJust models were vintage Rolexes and what their market value was. Honestly, I was hesitant to sell it at first, but the staff was very friendly, and there were so many benefits, so I decided to sell it. I will definitely recommend it to my friends, thank you very much.

I brought my vintage Daytona

My friend introduced me to Jewel Café, so I brought my item there to buy it. Their shop is quite stylish and the atmosphere is very comfortable. I also got to talk about vintage Rolexes and other brands because the staff who did the appraisal for me was very knowledgeable in this field. Since there aren't many vintage Daytonas brought in there, the staff explained the market value of vintage Rolexes in great detail to me, and we had a great time talking about it. They also offered me a satisfactory price after the explanation, so I sold it without any worries. I will use their services again when I have other unwanted items. Thank you for your service.

Selling my antique Cellini that has been passed down through generations

I was selling an antique Cellini that had been passed down through my grandfather's generation. I learned that it was considered a vintage Rolex and searched for resale shops and resale shops willing to buy it, but couldn't find any that would accept it. That's when I saw a review of Jewel Café, which accepts items that others won't. I called them and brought in my antique Cellini. They thoroughly appraised the watch, despite its poor condition, and offered me a great price, so I decided to sell it right away. Thank you so much!

I am selling my unused vintage GMT Master

I found their shop near my house online, so I went to check it out. The atmosphere was very different from other resale shops, allowing even people like me who rarely use this kind of service to come in with ease. I brought my vintage Rolex to be appraised, and the staff was easy to talk to and explained the appraisal procedure in detail, including the time it would take, which made me feel comfortable. They also offered a good price for it. Since my GMT Master hadn't been serviced, it wasn't in great condition, but I was able to sell it anyway, so thank you for buying it.

They bought my vintage Rolex Explorer for a higher price than other stores.

I was told that the Explorer is a vintage Rolex model that doesn't fetch a good price at many stores, so when I asked a friend for a good shop she knew, she introduced me to Jewel Café. While many places wouldn't offer a good price without the box and other accessories, the staff at Jewel Café inspected it thoroughly and offered me a higher price than I could find elsewhere, so I decided to sell it there. We also talked about selling vintage Rolexes, and I was very happy to be able to sell my watch to someone knowledgeable in this field. I'll be back with my unworn Rolex again soon.

I'm selling my memorable vintage Milgauss

I'm selling a vintage Milgauss watch I received from my father as a congratulatory gift for my first job. I recently searched online for Rolex Milgauss watches and found them very popular, and mine was in excellent condition due to its lack of wear. I visited the Jewel Cafe in my neighborhood because I was told there was a chance my Rolex could be a valuable antique. Honestly, I had no plans to set a price, but the staff thoroughly explained the history of vintage Milgauss watches to me and said now was a good time to sell it, so I decided to do so right away. I was surprised to be able to cash it in right away and didn't expect it to fetch such a high price! I'll be back if I have something else to sell.

Selling my vintage Air-King

I went to sell a vintage Air-King watch that was a gift for my husband. It had been worn for over 10 years, so the screws were broken and the hands were starting to loosen, so it was unused and stored. I initially didn't consider selling it, but when I checked the repair costs, they were so expensive that I gave up. After discussing it with my husband, I thought I'd at least get an evaluation to see how much a vintage Rolex was worth. Other stores either wouldn't accept it because it was damaged, or were selling it for a very low price. But when I went to Jewel Café, they inspected it and offered me a price that exceeded my expectations, so I decided to sell it to them. I felt most comfortable with their detailed explanation and price, and I could sell it without any worries.

Ways to sell Rolex Antique
at a higher price

How to Sell Rolex Antique at a High Price〈 1 〉

Sell your Rolex as soon as possible if you have decided that you won’t be using it

The price of a Rolex varies depending on the model, but it can also fluctuate depending on the production year and reference number. For example, popular models with a relatively newer year and reference number can fetch a higher market price. Also, since demand tends to vary depending on the model, we recommend that you sell your Rolex as soon as you have decided that you will not be using it.

How to Sell Rolex Antique at a High Price〈 2 〉

Sell your Rolex with its warranty card and accessories for a higher price

Be sure to keep the warranty card, box, spare parts, and instruction manual that came with your Rolex when you purchased it. Without the warranty card, you may not be able to receive an authorized service or repair. Therefore, the purchase price of a Rolex will vary greatly depending on whether it has a warranty card. In addition, if the watch does not come with spare links, this limits its range of adjustable sizes, which may result in a lower price. That’s why it is advisable to keep all accessories carefully without throwing them away.

How to Sell Rolex Antique at a High Price〈 3 〉

Remove the dirt from your Rolex and keep it clean to sell it at a higher price

The key to increasing the appraisal value of a Rolex is to clean it as much as possible beforehand. Even a simple cleaning at home, such as wiping the glass surface or removing dirt from the crevices of the strap, can impact the appraisal value. If your Rolex has not been serviced for a long time, it is a good idea to just bring it in as is. Of course, a watch that has been serviced will fetch a higher price, but Rolexes can be expensive to repair and it may take many months. Considering the downsides, it is recommended to bring in the watch without getting it serviced.

About purchasing an Antique Rolex watch

The history of Rolex begins in London. It is said that today there are around 600 Swiss watchmaking companies, many of which were founded over 100 years ago. However, only a handful have managed to maintain their operations uninterrupted to this day. One such company is Rolex, whose founder, Hans Wilsdorf, was born in Bavaria, Germany, in 1881. At the age of 12, he lost both his parents, dropped out of school, and began working for Cuno Korten, a Swiss watchmaker in La Chaux-de-Fonds. There, he was tasked with exporting British watches, allowing him to develop his business acumen from a young age. In 1903, at the age of 22, he moved to London, and two years later, in 1905, he founded Wilsdorf & Davis, the predecessor to Rolex. Five years later, in search of a "creative and easy-to-pronounce word," he renamed the company to the Rolex brand we all know today. In 1910, he entered into a partnership involving watch movements with Aegler, a Swiss company specializing in precision instrument manufacturing, and obtained the highest level of certification from the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). In 1914, Rolex was awarded the highest recognition from the Kew Observatory. Hans Wilsdorf's next goal was to develop a robust case capable of protecting the watch movement from dust and moisture. So in 1926, in collaboration with the Oyster Watch Co., he developed and patented a hollow metal case and a screw-down crown.

Thus was born the Rolex Oyster, the signature Rolex movement that endures to this day. A legendary event made the Rolex Oyster famous worldwide: in 1927, a London stenographer named Mercedes Gleitze achieved the astonishing feat of swimming across the Strait of Dover in 15 hours and 15 minutes, all while wearing her Rolex Oyster on her wrist. The fact that Rolex could survive such extreme conditions demonstrated the exceptional water resistance of the Oyster case, which ultimately spurred the development of waterproof watches among other manufacturers. The success of the Rolex Oyster made Rolex a worldwide name for its watchmaking technology, and the company subsequently turned its attention to developing automatic watches.

In 1931, Rolex produced the first watch equipped with a self-winding movement with a full 360-degree rotation, thus overcoming the biggest problem with automatic winding up to that point: the mechanism's poor efficiency. This technology dramatically improved winding efficiency, further enhancing Rolex's innovative capabilities. The integration of this perpetual movement into the prized Rolex Oyster resulted in the Oyster Perpetual, nicknamed "the Bubbleback" in today's antiques market because the rotor that winds the mainspring is positioned above the movement, resulting in an unusually thick watch due to its rounded, bubble-like back to accommodate the rotor. In 1945, another revolutionary invention was added to the Oyster Perpetual: the Datejust. As the name suggests, the automatic date display advances daily at midnight, a groundbreaking mechanism at the time. These three key inventions—the Oyster case in 1926, the Perpetual movement in 1931, and the Datejust movement in 1945—marked the perfection of practical Rolex watch design.
