Emerald is said to be able to protect the wearer from calamities, it has a really long history, and is one of the most valuable gemstones due to its mystical green that can calms the mind. There are very few fissures when the beryl is still colorless, but when impurities like chromium or vanadium is mixed in and forming the green color, it causes tension during crystallization, forming the fissures in the emerald. To deal with the fissures, most of the emeralds will be soaked in colorless oil or resin, this is called impregnation. By doing so, the colorless oil or resin will fill up the small gap of the fissures that reach the surface from the internal, enhancing the beauty of the gemstone. There isn’t much issue with the impregnation for make-up purpose as it has been done for few hundred years, but gemstone that underwent high degree of impregnation may looks good at first glance, but the fissure may become more apparent and lose its beauty. Therefore, the size of surface fissures is decisive for the value of emerald.
