I am selling a broken Rolex Explorer II which is a keepsake from my mother.

My mother bought me a Rolex Explorer II as a coming-of-age gift, but I accidentally broke the watch, so I hid it without telling her. One time, I forgot something and had to ask my mother to deliver it to my office, and that's when she found the broken watch lying around in my room. I explained that I couldn't bear to tell my mother that I'd broken something so expensive, but she laughed and said, "It's okay! Everything breaks someday." Then my mother said there was no point in keeping it and suggested I sell it at Jewel Cafe. My mother had heard that they accepted broken items, and my own mother had sold her mother's unwanted jewelry for a good price there. So I took the watch to the store and asked the staff, "Can I sell my broken Explorer II here?" My mother smiled and said I was more than happy to do so. Even though the watch was broken and had no accessories, I got a good deal for it, so I thought I'd buy my mother a gift. It seems the store also buys other watches besides the Explorer II, so I might bring some in to sell in the future.

I'm selling Explorer II

I bought the Explorer II about 10 years ago, but since I couldn't wear it at work, I didn't have much opportunity to take it out and just kept it. Then I came across an article in a Jewel Cafe flyer about an Explorer II watch for sale. It was my first time in a resale shop, but the clean storefront and friendly staff made the place seem approachable and gave me a very good impression. The staff was very knowledgeable about watches, and we had a lively conversation. Anyway, I was offered a better price for the Explorer II than I expected. Since I wasn't wearing the watch, I immediately decided to sell it. I'd love to visit the shop again.

I can sell my broken Explorer II

I successfully sold my Explorer II, which had a broken glass. I dropped it due to my own carelessness and then stored it in a closet for years. I had given up on selling it because it was broken, but then I heard from a store that they buy broken Explorer II watches, so I asked for an appraisal. I still had all the accessories, including a spare chain, warranty card, and box, which increased the asking price. I was very pleased because I was able to sell it for a better price than I expected.

I am selling a Rolex Explorer II that I have worn lovingly for 8 years

I managed to sell my Rolex Explorer II. It was a gift from my grandfather to celebrate my first job, and I wore it lovingly for eight years. But now that I'm married, I decided to sell it to help cover the wedding expenses. I'd visited Jewel Cafe before, so I decided to go there again. The watch had a few minor scratches because I loved it so much that I wore it every day, but I was still able to get a high price for it.

I've been sizing up my beloved Explorer II

I've always loved Rolex watches and have worn various models, often selling previous ones. I loved the Explorer II so much that I had it serviced several times, and I wore it very carefully for quite a long time. As a result, I became very attached to it and was hesitant to part with it. However, since I had found the model I wanted to buy next, I finally decided to get my Explorer II appraised. I'd read good reviews about Jewel Cafe, and when I actually went there, the store atmosphere and staff were very pleasant, so I was able to appraise my Explorer II with confidence. I'd worn it enough that it had some visible scratches, but I was happy with the price I received for it.

I can't believe my grandfather's Explorer II sold for that much…

I received a Rolex Explorer II from my grandfather, but I wasn't sure what to do with it because, as a woman, I couldn't wear men's watches. I wasn't interested in watches, so I didn't know a Rolex Explorer II could sell for such a high price. A friend of mine told me she had sold a watch at Jewel Cafe before, and encouraged me to try it, saying, "Instead of just leaving it there, why not get it appraised?" So I called a nearby store to inquire. I was nervous even over the phone, but the female staff managed to calm my nerves and make me feel a little more at ease. I immediately headed into the store, which felt very comfortable. All the staff greeted me cheerfully, and we chatted about my memories with my grandfather. They also talked a little about themselves, and in no time the appraisal was complete. Even though the watch was an older model and had some scratches, I was able to get a high price for it. It was all new to me, and I was really nervous, but I'm glad I went to Jewel Cafe. I'd go there again if I ever have something else to sell.

I can sell my Rolex Explorer II with peace of mind!

I had a Rolex Explorer II that I had purchased a while ago, and it had been sitting in the back of a drawer. However, when I saw a brochure about high-value purchases from Jewel Cafe, I knew the Explorer II had a good market value and now was the time to sell it. This was my first time going to a buyback store for an appraisal, so I was a little nervous about a lot of things, but the bright smile and attentive service from the female staff immediately eased my worries. During the appraisal, we had a great time reminiscing about the day I bought the Explorer II, and I felt completely at ease. She explained the appraisal value to me in detail, and I was able to sell the watch at my own pace.

I'm selling the Rolex Explorer II my father left me.

My father recently passed away, and while I was sorting through his belongings, I found the Rolex Explorer II he used to wear. My mother encouraged me to take it, but I prefer my Apple Watch and honestly have no interest in Rolexes. When my father was alive, he had talked about passing it on to me, but I found it hard to say I didn't want it, so I just brushed it off. This time, I told my mother straight up that I intended to sell it to pay for my son's college tuition, and she readily agreed. I had already inquired about selling the Rolex Explorer II while shopping a while ago and received a very considerate response from the staff at Jewel Cafe, so I brought it to the store. I was thrilled to be able to sell it for a higher price than I expected!

Ways to sell Rolex Explorer II
at a higher price

How to Sell Rolex Explorer II at a High Price〈 1 〉

Sell your Rolex as soon as possible if you have decided that you won’t be using it

The price of a Rolex varies depending on the model, but it can also fluctuate depending on the production year and reference number. For example, popular models with a relatively newer year and reference number can fetch a higher market price. Also, since demand tends to vary depending on the model, we recommend that you sell your Rolex as soon as you have decided that you will not be using it.

How to Sell Rolex Explorer II at a High Price〈 2 〉

Sell your Rolex with its warranty card and accessories for a higher price

Be sure to keep the warranty card, box, spare parts, and instruction manual that came with your Rolex when you purchased it. Without the warranty card, you may not be able to receive an authorized service or repair. Therefore, the purchase price of a Rolex will vary greatly depending on whether it has a warranty card. In addition, if the watch does not come with spare links, this limits its range of adjustable sizes, which may result in a lower price. That’s why it is advisable to keep all accessories carefully without throwing them away.

How to Sell Rolex Explorer II at a High Price〈 3 〉

Remove the dirt from your Rolex and keep it clean to sell it at a higher price

The key to increasing the appraisal value of a Rolex is to clean it as much as possible beforehand. Even a simple cleaning at home, such as wiping the glass surface or removing dirt from the crevices of the strap, can impact the appraisal value. If your Rolex has not been serviced for a long time, it is a good idea to just bring it in as is. Of course, a watch that has been serviced will fetch a higher price, but Rolexes can be expensive to repair and it may take many months. Considering the downsides, it is recommended to bring in the watch without getting it serviced.

About purchasing an Explorer II watch

The history of Rolex began in London. It is said that today there are approximately 600 Swiss watchmaking companies, many of which were founded more than 100 years ago. However, only a handful have managed to maintain their operations uninterrupted to the present day. One such company is Rolex, whose founder, Hans Wilsdorf, was born in Bavaria, Germany, in 1881. At the age of 12, he lost both parents, dropped out of school, and began working for Cuno Korten, a Swiss watchmaker in La Chaux-de-Fonds. There, he was tasked with exporting British watches, allowing him to develop his business acumen from a young age. In 1903, at the age of 22, he moved to London, and two years later, in 1905, he founded Wilsdorf & Davis, the predecessor to Rolex.

Five years later, in search of a "creative and easy-to-pronounce word," he renamed the company to the Rolex brand we know today. In 1910, he entered into a partnership involving watch movements with Aegler, a Swiss company specializing in precision instrument manufacturing, and obtained the highest level of certification from the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). In 1914, Rolex was awarded the highest recognition from the Kew Observatory. Hans Wilsdorf's next goal was to develop a robust case capable of protecting the watch movement from dust and moisture. So in 1926, in collaboration with the Oyster Watch Co., he developed and patented a hollow metal case and a screw-down crown. Thus was born the Rolex Oyster, the signature Rolex movement that endures to this day.

A legendary event made the Rolex Oyster famous worldwide: in 1927, a London stenographer named Mercedes Gleitze achieved the astonishing feat of swimming across the Strait of Dover in 15 hours and 15 minutes, all while wearing her Rolex Oyster on her wrist. The fact that Rolex could survive such extreme conditions demonstrated the exceptional water resistance of the Oyster case, which ultimately spurred the development of waterproof watches among other manufacturers. The success of the Rolex Oyster made Rolex a worldwide household name for its watchmaking technology, and the company subsequently turned its attention to developing automatic watches. In 1931, Rolex produced the first watch featuring a 360-degree self-winding mechanism, thus overcoming the biggest problem with automatic winding up to that point: the mechanism's poor efficiency.

This technology dramatically improved winding efficiency, further enhancing Rolex's innovative capabilities. The integration of the perpetual movement into the prized Rolex Oyster resulted in the Oyster Perpetual, nicknamed the "Bubbleback" in today's antiques market because the rotor for winding the mainspring is positioned above the movement, resulting in the watch's unusually thick structure, as the back is rounded like a bubble to accommodate the rotor. In 1945, another revolutionary invention was added to the Oyster Perpetual: the Datejust. As the name suggests, the date display automatically advanced each day at midnight, a groundbreaking mechanism at the time. These three key inventions—the Oyster case in 1926, the Perpetual mechanism in 1931, and the Datejust mechanism in 1945—marked the perfection of practical Rolex watch design.
